I have my elderly disabled sister living in my home now and was told that I could apply for financial help for being her caregiver. How?

My sister is 17 years older than I am and has several disability issues that requires help on a daily basis. I have had her move into my home so that she is close and I can help her with walking, medications, doctor appointments, shopping, cooking, cleaning, laundry and daily companionship, which is the easy part because she’s my sister and I love her. I was told by a nurse that I should be being paid by the state (?) for being her caregiver. How do we go about doing that and begin receiving financial help for caregiver benefits?
