Hi , my mom has only SS as income 1200 a month, lives in Michigan independently and I do shopping, pay bills, help her, but she is getting worse, not eating much, can't use washer/dryer...microwave etc. Forgetting personal hygiene etc. I know I need to get her in a facility but don't know where to start. Does she need mental care? Or nursing home? Sites say they want to help but when they find out there is no money they say good luck and send you off. Anyone else been through this? I've tried to get Medicare assistance but they want copies of her bills I pay and bank accounts. She has no assets...any suggestions appreciated! thanks

It is not easy to place someone in a home by yourself with no assets, even those that may take those that have Medicaid pending. The nursing homes are going to need to be paid by someone, so getting that Medicaid approval is the first step. If you don't feel you can do it by yourself, or pay an attorney to do it, you may want to call a state social worker (APS) to do a welfare check on her. The other route would be to go through the hospital to get help, but something would have to happen to her to get her to the hospital in the first place.
