What does the strange term "ghosted" mean?

Its when someone with whom you've had some sort of relationship suddenly disappears or doesn't respond to texts or emails sent by you, or if you call it goes to voicemail and you never get a call back. Your "friend" has become a ghost. They've "ghosted" you.
