My mom has dementia and wants to keep her eyes closed. Is that part of dementia or is she really tired?

She seems to be sleeping thru the night.

My answer was yes. Two weeks before Mom passed she closed her eyes and never opened them again. She continued to be responsive. Like I said in other post, this occurred every so often before. When it happened and she talked she made sense. It was weird.

Sheri, when was the last time your Mom saw an eye doctor? Closing of Mom's eyes during daylight hours could mean the room to too bright for her.

I remember my parents had their house like a cave with all the shades drawn, and it had to do with too much brightness from outside.

What sort of dementia?

There are types which make people very fatigued, with almost no energy. So kind of: it is perhaps part of dementia AND she is really tired. If it isn't interrupting your mother's sleep pattern, I should leave her be.

The only thing you might like to check is that her eyes aren't sore or over-sensitive to light.

Closed eyes are not a symptom of dementia and I doubt if she's tired. You say she sleeps thru the night. I personally wouldn't be concerned about it.
