CD player for dementia person?

I just looked this up. The person has to be with it enough to turn it on and off and push buttons forwards or backwards to skip songs. My Mom forgot how to use a remote and and a telephone early in her dementia. And forget about learning anything new.

Does she have a DVD player? You can put CDs in these and they play thru the TV.

I did this for my mother last Christmas. I hadn’t realized that it is next to impossible to find something like this in the stores these days! (Tech moves too fast!)

I did find a Walkman type CD player buried on a shelf at Target, complete with small headphones, and a couple Christmas CDs. I put larger labels on the controls and she was able to use it.

Teepa Snow has a couple of different sets of music and meditations on CDs. Expensive, but I highly recommend her Music for Alzheimer’s/Dementia as it includes classical music as well as “golden oldies.”

Great idea. You can't overestimate the effects of music on a dementia person. One excellent product is called the Simple Music Player (you can google it). It's especially for designed for those with dementia. It's preloaded with quite a few songs and you can add your own. Check it out.

My sister bought our mom a simple CD player and some Elvis CDs for her birthday. I recently burned her a CD with familiar oldies. Not sure if she actually listens when we aren’t there. I turn it on and play while I’m there and she sings along and sways.
