You mention she already has been diagnosed with dementia symptoms. If so, she needs to see a neuropsychologist to determine what's causing the dementia. Dementia is not a disease. Have your PCP or neurologist refer you to a neuropsych. South FL should have many.

Mmost PCPs can do a brief cognitive test, but it doesnt tell you much. A neurologist can do a bit more thorough job, but the gold standard is a neuropsych evaluation that includes brain imaging, neurological testing and a several hour paper and pencil cognitive and reasoning assessment.
We got mom tested at an outpatient department that is part of a major rehab hospital. Some teaching hospitals have geriatrics departments that do this sort of evaluation.
