Can I get paid to care for my father with Parkinson's?
My fathers health is declining from Parkinson's disease and I was wondering if there was some way I could apply to be his caregiver and get paid. I am in Massachusetts.
Unless the info in your profile is a typo..your dad at 37 is very young...how old are you? He can pay you from his assets. Keep documentation and have a contract drawn up so that there will be proof that you are a paid caregiver. This might help later on if he has to apply for Medicaid. If your dad is a Veteran, if the Parkinson's can be traced as a "service connected disability" the VA has programs that might help.
This is one of the most common questions asked on this site. Here is the link to an article that answers your question. Ultimately, the best (and fullest, fairest) compensation would come directly from your father and you'd need a written contract (also search on this forum for that info). Good luck!
