Anxious and walking in a hurry in her AL facility, Mom asked the CNA if she could open the fire door. Beginning to wander, perhaps?

Mom's AL facility FaceTimed me today. Mom was walking the hallways, holding her babydoll. She was not interested in talking with me. She seemed anxious and was trying to walk as fast as she could. She came to a fire door exit and asked if the CNA could open the door. I am so sad. Like so many, I have not seen my LO for weeks because of Covid-19. Mom is late stage Alzheimer's/Vascular. I am wondering if she is beginning to wander. Since I am not allowed in, I can't access her myself. I believe that when I do see her, she will have drastically declined since I saw her back in March. She looks so forlorn. All of us are losing so much time with our loved ones!

Have they tested her for a UTI?

That would be the 1st thing to find out, imo.

I am sorry that you are not able to see her in person and having to see her via facetime having such a difficult time.

This COVID-19 pandemic has been very difficult for caregivers because of the restrictions facilities have placed on visitors. Your mom's behavior is very typical of someone with mixed dementia. My wife also had mixed dementia, it is becoming very prevalent among dementia patients. The wandering is also commonplace. You say she is in an ALF with memory care. Memory care is a secure area where wandering should be no problem. Her babydoll, I'm sure, brings her comfort. I'm sure the situation is tougher on you than her, it was for me. You will eventually see her and she will have changed. But she is still your mom. Reflect on the good times. Talk to her when you see her. She may not understand, but she will know you're there. I'm glad that you say she is well cared for.
