My father always liked to go to Doctor appointments on his own, without me, because he didn’t want help or think he needed help. However he has dementia and he’s getting to the point he can’t remember what the Doctors tell him. So I’ll have to convince him to let me start taking him. My question is, on days I’m unable to go with him, do we normally hire a caregiver to take him to appointments? I wonder if there’s any type of services that would cover the expense? I know there’s different ride companies, and vans but they would just leave him off at the door without helping I’m guessing and when his dementia progresses he may get confused and not know what to do when he gets there. Thanks for the help.

I am not sure if my neighbor has underlying issues, but her doctor is visiting her next week at her home. Perhaps because of covid?
Ask doctor about palliative care and hospice. They can evaluate, add them to palliatvie car/hopsice, and then graduate them from such services. My aunt just graduated. :)

I would not trust a hired caregiver to relay information AND to keep personal information private. HIPAA violations....
I suppose if the caregiver is not "just" a sitter/companion and has shown to be competent then I might trust them.
If you are going through an agency for your caregivers they may require that you hire either a certified CNA or a Nurse for these visits.
I have been very happy and pleased with remote visits. It works so much better than the waiting for two days for a return call. When I have sent messages and questions through the portal i have received very prompt responses.
Also, if he belongs to a church, sometimes church members will volunteer to help.
