Does not nutritional deficiency cause both depression and dementia?

Many older people now take meds such as statins, thiazide, and other substances that drain important nutrients such as B12, magnesium, and otheressentials from the body. I believe this draining of nutrients cause so called depression, so called panic attacks, and ultimately dementia. B12, magnesium, potassium, COQ10, and other nutrients necessary to a well functioning nervous system are drained from the body by so called meds. This causes nervous system damage and ultimately brain damage. I am 86, strong, healthy, med free, and pain free. I threw away prescriptions for Thiazide, lipitor, fosomax, and vicodin without ever filling them. That is why I have a healthy well working brain and body today. I totally healed myself with cinnamon, nuts, fruit, oatmeal, maple syrup, and lots of organic veggies along with whole milk and whole eggs.

I don’t believe what I see is “hype” re: supplements. If you eat a good, well balanced diet your body should be getting what it needs regarding vitamins , minerals and electrolytes. A daily multivitamin may help to ease one’s mind but is not necessary. Your body will excrete excess amounts of those supplements- that’s the beauty of our body’s physiology. That said, imo, with elderly folks any supplement should be given after a doctor(or physician extender) orders lab work to establish the person’s needs. B12 & Vitamin D are common supplements ordered as many older people develop a deficiency found on bloodwork results.

Discuss your lab results with your physician prior to beginning any supplement.

I am not adverse to holistic treatment. However, with seniors it’s often a delicate balance and each person is unique.

I hope nobody thought i wasrecommending any supplements.I was simply advising people that some so called meds do drain nutrients from the body and thereby cause severe malnutrition which then causes nervous system damage.Avoid statins, strong diuretics, or any otherdamaging so called meds.Eat only pure, clean real food primarily organic fruits, berries, and veggies, one or more whole eggs every day, and lots of whole milk.I take no supplements. I also take no meds.I will always be glad I never filled my prescriptions for thiazide, lipitor, fsomax, nor vicodin. Most so called depression, panic attacks, and dementia are caused by statins, diuretics, or narcotics. Genetics has nothing to do with it.

It has been proven that Statins do contribute to Dementia. Yjey not only remove Cholesterol from the body but the brain too. And the brain needs cholesterol. I refuse to take them. And my one doctor agrees. The other just told me to watch my diet. Low levels of Potassium did cause depression in my Dad. Anyone taking water pills should have it checked regularly.

Congrats on being mind and body healthy.

For years i refused to take statins because of those reasons. In January i let my new dr talk me into taking a statin because my lipid panel was awful along wth glucose...been on a clean eating program and hav lost 18 pounds so far. What is greatly concerning me right now is i will b talking to someone and totally lose my train of thought or cant remember the right word that i want to say. Im only 65 and i swear its gotta b the statin. Im goin off this crap!!!

Bobbie, congrats on your great help. And on your stellar diet. Most of us eat way too many of the wrong things, all things bad for us increasingly as we age. You are doing wonderfully well. I will say, however, that you may owe a good deal more to your wonderful family GENES than to exactly what you eat. When I worked on cardiology I could tell so much more about a patient by just asking about the family, parents and grandparents. How long they lived and what they suffered from throughout their lives. Whatever is working, it surely is something to celebrate! Keep it up. As to vitamins and supplements, with a reasonable diet it has already been known that with few exceptions, they do nothing for us, and exit through the urine and stool having done zero for all the money. There certainly are exceptions. It seems D-Mannose really does work for UTI and the eye vitamins are needed if there are macular degeneration problems. The taking of a multivit does no harm, but the rest is a sinkhole for cash.

According to the medical field that depends on sick people for an above average living.

There is all kinds of proof that good quality supplements actually are beneficial.
