How to apply for Medicaid when income is too high?

My mother is currently in an assisted living facility. She was admitted there June 1. Since then her care level has increased and so have the charges for her care. She currently has Medicare and receives the maximum amount from VA for spousal benefits. She needs Medicaid. Unfortunately Medicare does not cover anything and I have to pay the difference on her bill. Does anyone know of a way I can apply for Medicaid for her so the care and things that she needs will be taken care of?

You can go to the local Medicaid office and apply or you can call the State Medicaid office that your mom is in an they will mail to you an application.

If your mom's income/resources are above the limits Medicaid allows, she will not qualify.

North Carolina Medicaid does not pay for Assisted Living. It will pay for NH care. If your mom's needs are increasing, it may be time to look for a nursing home for her.

You need to find out if NC is a Miller Trust state or a "spend down" state.
