Is there a device that my mom can use to get up if she falls in the house?

GardenArtist Sep 2020
What limitations does she have?   Does she use a cane, walker, rollator or wheelchair?

More information would really help, including if falls occur frequently, if floors are bare, carpeted, have throw rugs, and what furniture is nearby to help.

There are a lot of issues that could affect falling and getting up safely.

If she uses a wheelchair, she could lock the wheels and use it to pull herself up, but that assumes that she has the strength to do so.

Does she live alone?

JoAnn's point of safe shoes is one to be considered seriously.  Slippers do that..they slip and aren't really safe unless they have good quality soles.

More information really would narrow down the answers to more targeted ones.

I am not a fall risk but I have found I do so much better running around the house in my bare fit or wearing sneakers, like Sketchers where the soles bend easily. If I am wearing sandals, slippers or those fluffy socks, I tend to slip on floors, or trip going up steps.

The fire department will happily come out and pick up a person who has fallen. However, if this is a frequent issue, you need to change her living situation.

I have seen advertising for something that might have been helpful for my LO.

It is advertised as a step up for getting into a high bed, and is a platform about 6” from the floor attached to a tubular handle like a walker.

It looks very stable, and if your mom is still relatively agile, it might be helpful for her to be able to pull herself onto her knees or a sitting position, the from there, pull herself to a stand.

I’ll see if I can find out what it’s called.

Found it- it’s called SteptoBed.

Recently I was given the information for Phillips Lifesaver Alert. It's a monthly fee depending on what you need.
