My wife (79) has dementia and has a fit whenever I try to give her the medication that is prescribed for her. How can this be resolved?

Pudding desert time.

put a pill in spoon full of pudding and right after it’s 5-6 sips of water or ensure with a bendy straw to wash the pill awake.

OP hasn't returned for a week to at least acknowledge the replies he got. Probably won't come back. I was going to give my reply to, but what's use.

My mother had that same problem with taking pills, then a Nurse discovered that Mom loved chocolate ice cream. So the Nurse experimented with crushing the pill [which was allowed for that pill] and stirring it into the ice cream. We have a winner !!

The funny part, if one tried to give my Mom that ice cream without the crushed pill, my Mom didn't like the taste.

This is a common problem and the answer may depend on which medication you are trying to get her to take. Some medications might come in alternate forms, like a derma patch or suppository, etc. Some medications state that they cannot be crushed, dissolved or broken in half because this impacts any time-release action it is meant to have. Others, even if they can be broken in half, dissolved or crushed, are incredibly bitter to the extent that it cannot be masked by a food (been there, done that). Start by asking your doc or pharmacist if there's an alternative form. If not then ask if it can be broken, crushed or dissolved. If not then you will need to ask their guidance in order to get her to take it (maybe the doc will find an alternative medication that comes in another form). Others on this forum with experience will step up with helpful suggestions.
