I'm looking for advice on diet and exercise for diabetics, and also how to control diabetic ulcers. Any tips?

My oldest daughter suffers with the same condition along with Chron’s disease. I feel for you. I wish I had answers for you. My daughter is constantly struggling with her health. It breaks my heart to see her and others like you dealing with this situation. I hope you will find the proper medical help soon. Take care.

Diabetic ulcers are tough to heal, but a wound care nurse should be able to evaluate them and recommend a treatment program. Prevention usually involves wearing shoes and socks all the time during the day, proper cleaning every night and inspecting feet for problems. If you see calluses, let the wound care nurse deal with them so you don't create a wound problem.

As for diet, a registered dietician is your best bet. He/she evaluate your needs and help create plans that meet those needs. Let him or her know that you want to start exercising and he/she can recommend adjustments to diet before exercising.

As for exercise, you might do better with a physical therapist or exercise group for diabetics. Check your local hospital and YMCA for recommendations.

Our local hospital has a program called Diabetic Daycare. It is an all day program that reviews the information a person with diabetes needs to know to stay healthy. It includes a meal. People can participate in periodic refesher part day classes.

This is information you should seek from your doctor. Ask for a nutritionist consultation if you are able to get that. As to ulcers, they are exceptionally difficult to heal and if there is a way to get a wound care consultation that is the best way to go.

You need to talk to your doctor about this. Some hospitals and care facilities have programs to teach diabetics how to control it with diet and exercise. If the ulcers are on your feet, you need to bring it to ur doctors attn. Anywhere actually but the feet are important. They need to be taken care of properly. A Wound Care Nurse would be good for this.
