My mom with dementia was taken without my permission or knowledge. Who do I report this to?

My niece came from across the country to visit my mom. She picked her up from her caregiver and took her to an undisclosed location for a months visit. For some reason my niece will not tell me where they are at, although she did let me talk to her on the phone tonight.

Mom has dementia and said she has no idea where they are at. Just that they are in an apartment and she has a bed to sleep in (she sleeps most of the time). What do you make of this? The caregiver said she doesn't know where they are at either. I wonder why my niece is being secretive?

This is the same niece who had my mom sign over POA to her two years ago behind my back. My mom never even recalled doing it. Who do you even report this sort of thing to?

If your mom has dementia, I am wondering why the caregiver let your mom leave with her niece? (basically, a stranger as far as she knows)

Anyway, You should report this to the police. That is the same as kidnapping.

Something doesn't sound right.

An undisclosed location??? Sounds like she is hiding something.

Does the Niece still have POA to your mother? Was the POA taken from you? What did you do about that at the time? What reason did the Niece give you when you spoke to her about not giving you information about where your mother is?
There is something missing here, and of course we on forum could never guess at what that something is. This could be a person with POA taking a loved one on vacation or it could be something nefarious.
If you suspect there is some reason to think that there is possible harm to your mother then of course this is for investigation by APS who will report to Police. If this is an emergency, the go directly to the police.
You say this is your Niece. Is her mother your Sister? Does your sister or anyone else in the family know of this disappearance?
Hope you will keep us informed of this "mystery".
I can only tell you that, if my brother had disappeared I would have been in a police station in 2 seconds. So I suspect there is background in this story we are not being told. Hope you can tell us a bit more of the "mystery history".

I would call Adult Protective Services and see if they can help. You could also report it to the police and see if they can help. If you talked to your niece on her cellphone, the location of her cellphone signal can be traced. Good luck.

This is strange. Call and report it to APS if you want an investigation.

Are you close to your niece? Is your mom close to her? What do you know about your niece?
