Not exactly true. It actually varies by city. Lift assists are NOT free in every city. And in many cities, it’s the fire dept that provides a lift assist not the ambulance company.
My mom with dementia was over 200 pounds and I was her only caregiver 24/7 For a while mom began sliding of her wheel chair..While on the floor I always checked her first for any injury. I had a full size air mattress with an inside pump and I would lay that flat on floor by her. Roll her onto the center of the mattress and then proceed to inflate mattress while keep watch on her. Holding her sit her up, I would put her walker in front and assist her up and onto her chair. Hope that helps.. This is only if your wife isn't hurt.
Some places do charge for lifts, and some may call APS if you call them a number of times. You might consider getting a blow up bed (the ones that really go up, and have pump built in). Roll elderly one onto uninflated bad, then inflate. She can swing legs over edge, or have the inflatable bed next to her real bed. Good luck.
Call 911. Some have lift teams. Explain what you need help with. DO NOT ATTEMPT to do this alone yourself no matter WHAT you have to help. An injury to me means you are both down.
Please don’t attempt this on your own. It’s not worth the risk of injury. When my dad fell we called 911 and either paramedics or firefighters came and got him up. He was given the option of being transported to hospital, mostly choosing not
Call 911. They will send EMT's out to help get her up off of the floor, and if she's not hurt and they don't need to transport her to the hospital, there is no charge.
I had to call them 9 times in a 2 month period to get my husband up off the floor, and they were always very nice and helpful, and thankfully he never had to transported, so I was never charged for their service.
