My dad has Parkinson's disease and has awful nightmares. How can I deal with them?

NeedHelpWithMom Dec 2020
My mom also has Parkinson’s disease.

My mom has crazy dreams at times too.

It is disturbing to wake up in the middle of the night to screams.

It’s good to know that there are meds for this.

My mom is the type of person that isn’t open to taking extra medication.

She takes Sinamet for her Parkinson’s disease but nothing more, other than seizure meds, vitamins and a few supplements.

Mom doesn’t live in my home anymore but I remember her occasionally having bad dreams. It was very unsettling for her.

Contact the Parkinson's Foundation at 1-800-473-4636 (1 800 4 PD INFO) where you will reach a live helpful person for free advice. You can also request many of their free booklets including one on sleep. He may have REM Sleep Behavior Disorder (RBD) and about 50-60% of PWP (People With Parkinson's) have this symptom. His doctor may refer him for a sleep study and there are medical treatments. Melatonin available over the counter and clonazepam, which is available by prescription, may help. Definitely reach out for help.
