Can't get my husband w/dementia to wake up, eyes open a little, holds my hand, breaths normally, color ok. I don't want to panic. Is it safe to just let him sleep?
Is this a sudden change? It would probably be good to call his doctor.
If it's been a gradual change, but he has been declining, maybe you can ask the doctor for a hospice consult. It sounds like he might be nearing the end of his journey.
I've called the hospice nurse (and the doctor, before Dad and then Mom before they were in hospice) because I wasn't sure if I should be worried or not. Better to err on the side of caution and have them tell you everything is OK, than to wait to long have had the regret of "if only."
