Among the many problems since my husbands TIAs 3 years ago, complicated by dementia, a slow decline, balance, walking, BM issues, weakness to get to the bathroom in time. Dealing with bathroom issues during the day is tolerable but night time I am up several times because of his urge to urinate. He wears depends, have the bed pads but helping him get up, pull down the depends, holding the urinal ends up a burst of urine all over and then waiting for the rest or nothing even though I know he has not emptied. Sometimes there is success after waiting what seems like an hour, I’m exhausted, tired, cranky. If he doesn’t finish, it’s back to bed after cleaning up and changing only for it to repeat sometimes within a few minutes or within an hour or two. He just got over a UTI and to make sure he’s ok can’t even get a clean sample to recheck. He’s also had cyber knife treatment for prostate cancer 2 years ago which is when this urine incontenance issues started. They say the radiation can enlarge or inflame the prostate. He was given an incontenance med and it seemed to work for a while but now I think it’s preventing him from fully emptying so I have stopped it and find no difference. I have sat in the urologist office hours because he can’t give a sample on a full bladder scan and then empty scan. It’s like a catch 22.
