Can you get a damaged inheritance check reissued??

Someone had got a inheritance check and it ended up being damaged.. Ripped, to be exact. Can you get a damaged inheritance check reissued??

Geaton777 Dec 2020
There may be a time limit for depositing it (maybe 6 months) before it is void, just FYI.

Yes, you can get a check reissued but you may need to pay a stop payment fee on the original check. Taping only will work if the signature and account info is not damaged.

Faerie,
Does that answer your question?

Come back and let us know how it went.

I would think, just like money that gets ripped, you can tape it.

Until there is a trusted plan, keep possession of the original check?
Maybe send copies?

The issuer of the check can write on the new check:
"TO REPLACE CHECK # 1234, Issued to "name".

I don't think that anyone is going to reissue a check before they have the original one in hand.

Since inheritance checks are usually part of a legal transaction you don't have to worry about keeping the check in hand until replaced.

Have you tried to get it cahed at the bank? If they won't accept it, call the issuer and explain the problem. You may be able to send the check back and have them reissue it. You may want to send it registered mail.

Tape it and take it to the bank. They can help you understand what needs to be done, if anything.

Sendhelp Dec 2020
Take it in person to the bank, if possible, to the one it is drawn on.
They can check with the draftee whether it is valid.

You need to ask whoever issued the check.
