Approximately how much time does a person with cirrhosis have?

He found out in August of 19.

Hello, do you care to share more details? Even in a private message? My mother was diagnosed with ESLD late August it has been a roller coaster. I have asked a lot of questions on here. My mother has to get her stomach drained every two weeks. She swells and can barely move or eat. It is heart breaking. Some doctors say she has days to live. Others say she has an 80%chance of living 3 months. Her GI doc says she could “get better”. It’s terribly confusing for me being her primary caregiver and trying to know when I need to let her be and wait for a dr visit or take her to ER or if she is about to pass.

Absolutely a question for the MD involved in his care. And would be a guess even for him. The progression of ANY illness in any individual is as individual as a thumbprint and cannot be guessed at. Your doctor knows how severe his illness is and what other systems are taxed by the illness; he is the best to answer the question. We could have no idea. So sorry you are going through this. Many do live many years with this illness but the quality of life is seriously affected.

I agree, it all has to do with what stage the persons in and if they do what they r told. I have been told the last stage the stomach extends looking like ur pregnant.

There's no clear answer, it depends on what stage he is in and how well he takes care of himself. If he is in stage 1, if he doesn't drink, eats well (limit fats, sugar and salt) exercises, in general does all the right things, he could live many years.

You don't have to be a drinker to have cirrhosis.
