My mother had a fall and is in a wheelchair. I don’t want to put her in a nursing home but I can’t lift her to the bathroom anymore. Advice?

Now I have covid and I’m afraid I’ve exposed her. Can I hire a caregiver if she tests positive?

You probably won’t be able hire a private caregiver if you have COVID but you can definitely hire one through an agency (which will cost you more $$$). Visiting nurse agencies are treating many COVID patients at home right now.

You might need to get a hospital bed to put in your living room, with a bedside commode next to it for the time being. You can hire an aide to come put mom on the bedside commode, and while they hold her up, you can clean her. Also having her wear diapers 24/7 probably would be a good idea at this point as well. Also have a physical therapist come to the house to work with mom in regaining her strength back.
Of course none of this sadly can be done until you both have quarantined for at least 10 days. Wishing you the best.

Did she have a home PT evaluation? Depends might be a good idea while recuperating. So sorry you contracted Covid. It may be difficult hiring a caregiver with Covid. I would suggest informing her primary if not already. He/she could give you better advice. You need to self isolate and wear a mask while caring for her. I hope and pray things work out for the better real soon. So stressful I know. Please keep us posted.
