Most people suffering from Alzheimers or another Dementia have sundowners. Actually, its one of the first signs people notice in a LO that they have a Dementia. In the early stages the person suffering from a Dementia pretty much knows something is not right. So, they learn to compensate. This is called "showtiming". As the desease progresses this becomes harder to do. Sundowning starts usually in late afternoon but some members have seen it even earlier. The person becomes more confused and shows other signs of Dementia. We have a member now that for her LO it starts about 3pm, I think she said, and lasts till 8pm and then her LO seems better. But in that time her LO gets very agitated. This is not good and there are meds that can help.
My daughter worked as an RN for 20 years in rehab/nursing homes. She says the Full Moon thing is true. They had more problems with Dementia patients when the Full Moon was out.
"...caring for my friend Marie, who is 65 years old, living at home with alzheimer's / dementia, anxiety, depression, and sleep disorder."
There are literally hundreds of people on this forum living with, caring for a LO with sundowners. What is your specific question that they can help you with?
