Aunt with Alzheimer's stays in the bathroom for a very long time. Anyone else experience this?

My Dh will often (at least once a day) stay in the bathroom for an hour. He has gut issues and diabetes he doesn't even attempt to control. I know that causes stomach/bowel problems, but an hour on the toilet?? IDK.

He takes his phone in there with him, so at least he can listen to a podcast.

BTW, he's only 69. not old and no dementia.

I'm assuming she's not locking herself in? If so, remove the ability to lock it. I realize she is cognitively impaired, but maybe she's experiencing a UTI so that she feels like she's not quite completely voided?

My mom does the same thing! She sits on the toilet for a long time. I try to get her up, but she says she's not done. What we did, was tell her she's done and have her look in the toilet. Handed her some toilet tissue, have her wipe and then flush. We needed to get her to focus on the task at hand. There were times when I had to wrap my arms around her and pull her up. She can't help this behavior. Mom's not able to get her brain to command her movements. I sympathize with all caregivers. Taking care of my mom, who has Parkinson's Dementia, is the hardest and saddest job I've ever had. I hope my comments helped a little.

Strange. Do you check on her? I sure would, so many things in a BR that are dangerous. What else is she doing?
