I am an ex wife to a deceased vet. Am I eligible for any caregiver aid? I was married to him for 25 years but he was in the air force 3 yrs.

It doesn’t matter that the veteran is dead. There are multiple benefits for the surviving spouse. The issue here is that you are the ex wife. You are not a surviving spouse. You’re not eligible for any type of caregiver aid. 3 years in the AF probably didn’t entitle your spouse to much from the VA unless he served during the war and as the ex spouse those benefits are not available to you. He didn’t serve long enough to earn a pension that you would have been able to receive, if he had served 10 years during your marriage then you would have eligible for part of his pension. But he didn’t serve 10 years so that is moot. Ex-spouses aren’t eligible for aid & attendance either.

There are survivor benefits for qualified widows and surviving minor children. My aunt revived a widows pension and later Aid and Attendance. She was married for 45 years and they were married at the time of his death. Ex wives do not receive benefits.

We just had a similar question asked. And I think Grandma is correct, once a Vet dies all his benefits die with him. I know to get Aides and Attendance you must be married to the Vet. Once divorced, you cannot get it. And the Vet had to serve during war time. The only way a surviving spouse can get any pension after the Vet dies is if he has paid into a special pension for surviving spouses.

I would call your County VA Dept and run your questions by them.

99.99% sure that once he is dead there is no aid available. At least Caregiver aid since you are no longer a caregiver.
Also think once you are divorced you are not eligible for benefits.
Contact a Veterans Assistance Commission and have his DD214 or other papers so that they can assist you.
