Mom sometimes can't manage getting out of the bathtub. I have a bad back, so I'm not much help. Anyone ever used a lift chair in the tub?

There is a grab bar that clamps over the edge of the tub making it easier to get in and out. There should be a bar on the tub wall. If not I have used a suction bar with no problem. I am assuming that Mom gets a shower. There are shower benches that two of the legs are out of the tub. The chair part slides. So the person sits on the chair outside of the tub and you slide them into the tub.

If there is a shower head already then a hand held shower head is easily installed. Just a matter of taking off the existing shower head and attaching the hose of the handheld. If you want to use both shower heads, then there is an attachment where you can turn the water off on one head and on to the other or have both going at the same time. I am proud to say, I personally installed this with no help from DH.

Have a shower head on a hose attachment installed with all the controls on the shower head part, not on the wall. It's not difficult or expensive. I have recently seen advertised on tv a company that comes in and in 1 day cuts out a notch on the side of the tub that leaves only a 1 or 2 inch clearance. Then they put an insert over it to cover it. No idea what it costs but seems cheaper than a remodel.

Yes, we used a bath chair that worked well. On the lighter side, we got the chair after mom did not seem able to get out of the tub and of course just an awkward and dangerous thing to try to do alone, I told her that I would have to call EMT's, gave her a towel to cover up, and I hadn't seen her move that fast in a very long time! 😀😀😀😂😂😂 One of those moments that are remembered with a smile and a chuckle.

Most people eventually must give up the bath and use a shower instead; a sturdy shower chair or transfer bench, grab bars and a hand help shower should make getting clean much easier for everyone.
