How to cope with being 18 and having a mom (38) that’s paralyzed?

So my mom had her stroke 5 years ago when I was 13 and recently we’ve been having a hard time with our relationship because of our situation. I haven’t been focused on school or graduating for a very long time now and that something I would like to do! My mom does have caregivers now as I was her full time caregiver up to about 2 months ago, but the company is iffy and still needs my help. Does anyone have any pointers or support on how I can balance everything with school and work? I’m supposed to be graduating this year.

Sorry you are going through that. Thats very nice of you to help. If the company is iffy, find another one that can help. You need to take care of your things like school.

Wish the best for you and your mom

JenayeSimone, so sorry to hear about your Mom. Ask your Mom's doctor if he/she thinks having more physical therapy would work? Modern medicine is always finding new way to help with all different types of medical issues.

You are not your mothers keeper. While I admire the fact that you want what's best for your mom, and feel the need to look after her, that really isn't your role at this time in your life. You are supposed to be finishing your schooling and going to college, hanging with your friends and getting a job, not being your mothers caregiver. I'm sure she doesn't want you giving up all those things because of her.
Is your father not in the picture to take over with her care? If he's not then it's up to your mom to get her care figured out, with the help of a social worker if necessary. Your moms care should not be your problem. You should be out enjoying your young life, with your friends, and the only concern you should have right now is graduating from high school. I wish you well.
