Has anyone utilized the Veterans Aid and Attendance Benefit for a parent going into Assisted Living?

My father is a Veteran and we are looking at AL options. I was recently made aware of some available benefits that may provide some assistance or reimbursement. Wondering if anyone has gone through the process and how difficult it is?

I did. I used an attorney to file which was very expensive (13k). It took about 8 months to get the funds but they did give back pay. You need to set up a separate account and be named fiduciary. It was a long difficult process but in the end netted him $1909 per month. It was worth the aggravation

Yes, he served during wartime and retired after 20 years. Fortunately he kept all of his paperwork and records together so I have all of that. I spoke with someone and now need to get all of his asset and additional information together. I think it will be more difficult because my Dad is currently married, although he and his wife no longer reside together.
I figured it would take some time. We are looking at AL now, but it would be very helpful if he could get some assistance even at a later time.

I am sure someone has used Aid and Attendance. The criteria though is that your father needed to serve during Wartime. You will need all his papers given to him upon discharge. The more you have the easier the application.

I suggest you contact your County VA offices and talk to them. I sat down with the man and he filled out the paperwork. I supplied the military records. Don't expect to get the money right away. Sometimes you need to appeal a finding. This was me. I did not do it though because Mom was going on Medicaid and u can't have both.
