Delusional mother advice needed. Should I contact the doctors again?

Hi,

Has anyone had any experience with an elderly parent with Paranoid Delusions? I took my mum to a doctor to get her assessed over a year ago and after a lot of tests they diagnosed her with Schizophrenia.

She has been prescribed anti-psychotic medication and seems to be taking them to my knowledge. The issue is that she is still having the same delusions, should I contact the doctors again? Or is it normal for her to still have these strange delusions?

I haven’t had any contact with the doctors or the mental health team she was assigned to in quite some time. Also she doesn’t think she’s delusional, has no idea that she has been diagnosed with schizophrenia etc.

Any advice would be great.

Thanks

P.S. I’m not even sure if schizophrenia diagnosis is correct

My son is currently in a locked ward suffering from delusions. We still do not have a firm diagnosis.

Likely your mother's medication needs adjusting. I know with my son, they are upping the Risperidone to find the dose that brings him to the point where he can realize his psychosis is not reality for the rest of us.

I know healthcare is different in the UK. But I would think she would need to see a Dr. on a regular basis to monitor her meds. Would need labs. The med she is now receiving may not be working for her. In my State, you have to see a Dr. every six months for a new prescription especially the DEA controlled ones.

Absolutely get in touch with the doctor.

She is in need of intervention. She is either not taking her meds or they are not working, that needs a doctor to sort out. They can test her urine or blood for the meds to determine if she is actually taking them. I would be surprised if she is taking them.

Best of luck getting her the care she needs. Strength to you to deal with this difficult situation.

I don’t have experience with this but stick around because others will offer help.

I wish you and your mom well.
