State Medicaid programs do cover LTC for people who qualify for Medicaid and qualify for LTC. A recipient's SS goes towards paying for the LTC (to the facility) and the person is left with about $90 every month (this amt varies by state). Any facility a person enters must be asked in advance if they accept Medicaid and if they have beds available, as many places have waiting lists. Being on Medicaid means sharing a room with another person. A person can enter LTC on private pay, run out of funds and then apply for/be qualified for Medicaid and won't have to leave as long as the facility accepts Medicaid residents. They will receive all the same care and attention, just will have to share a room.
