It depends. there are programs for Veterans and family can be paid for caregiving. It has recently expanded to cover all Veterans not just ones from Desert Storm and recent. So it depends on the circumstances. The relative can pay a family member for care just as they would pay a caregiver hired privately or from an agency. This can be beneficial as it is a legitimate spend down of assets if the person may in the future have to apply for Medicaid or other services where income is a factor.
Biden has promised there will be more programs like this. However, as with most political promises we can likely put that in our file that says "{Promises". Right now it is up to the states if their medicaid programs pay. Medicare doesn't that I am aware of. Also the pay is miniscule. Also the hours you are paid are very limited. So as we always advise people "DO NOT GIVE UP YOUR DAY JOB". You may end up jobless and homeless and without a job history. Meanwhile, call 1-800-medicare which gives information on how to check on medicaid for your state as well, as use your search engine to check on the details.
