Interested in use of coconut oil capsules?

Someone once told me they seemed helpful. Have been trying Prevagen…not noted a change though. Hunny takes Mamentaine 2 x a day and Donepizil 1 x a day.

What dose and strength is recommended?

Coconut oil doesn't come in capsules, as far as I know. I read once there have been some studies saying it may help cognitive decline because it contains important fats for your brain. I doubt it will help but it's delicious and can't hurt, it's the oil itself and not come active chemical that might have a side effect. Use it in place of olive oil or shortening in foods the patient eats anyway.

The reality is these medications will only help for a short time. The desease will progress to the point they won't make a difference. They won't cure. I just think they prolong the inevitable. My Moms neurologist chose not to give my Mom anything. He said if she had hallucinations and they didn't scare her then he wouldn't even recommend meds for that. She had night terrors. He said if not frequent, and they weren't, he would not treat them either.

If they had a drug that STOPPED the progression of Dementia in the very early stages, I would be all for it.

We all were told that fish oil is great for the heart. Not saying it isn't but it contains Vit E, a blood thinner. My MIL was on Coumadin, a blood thinner. Her doctor was having a hard time getting her numbers normal. I asked my MIL if her Dr, knew she was taking fish oil, she said yes but I knew by the way she said it the doctor didn't know. The Fish oil was probably throwingboff her numbers.

Just because something is OTC does not mean it doesn't interact with other medications.

If you are looking to improve or cure or slow the progression of dementia you are going to be wasting your money.
If you want to use coconut oil it is great for baking. Brownies made with coconut oil taste awesome.
I doubt that the billions of dollars would be put into funding research if coconut oil worked. I have been hearing about that for almost 20 years now and if it truly worked well half the conversations on this site would not be here.

Supplements are not overseen by the FDA. They are not required to prove they do anything, hence the vague language on their packaging ("helps with" or "may help..."). There is no dosage because they are food supplements. No one tells you what dosage of broccoli to take in a day. However, some supplements are still chemicals when ingested thus you need to inform the doctor of what you're taking and how much, as it may cause drug interaction with any prescription meds.

Are you planning on using Coconut oil to help with the ALZ/Dementia? Because I read nothing that it helps with that. More for energy.

Your husband seems to be on a lot of cognitive drugs. Please realize that these may help for a short time but as the desease progresses they won't work. Actually some have side effects.
