Do I understand that the maximum allowed for a veteran for Aid and Attendance is $22,939 a year and for a surviving spouse its $12,072 a year? I'm asking as my Mom is a surviving spouse with dementia and we are caring for her in her home. The monthly cost for caregivers is projected to be well over $4000. Thanks for any guidance.

The initial VA application for Aid and Attendance is quite tedious but I have called with questions since then and was satisfied with the calls.

The Vet gets more than a spouse would. If they both need help, then there's an amount for that. There is a cap. And I am pretty sure you won't get 4k for Mom. Your best bet is to make an appt with your County VA dept. You will need all the Vets discharge papers. He/she must have been in the service during Wartime.
I'm not sure what the Max is on the amounts. When I tried getting Aid and Attendance from the VA for my dad, it went according to his income. It was a lot of paper work too. I would suggest going through your area of aging to get an advocate to help you with the paper work. It can take quite awhile to go through the process too.
