Unbearable pain after a root canal, can someone help?

I so hope you got an appt. Did you get antibiotics before or after. If not you should have to help clear up any infection left after the tooth drained.

Immediately call your dentist. While you are waiting to see him/her rinse your mouth with warm salt water. Frequently. Swish, swish, swish. It will be soothing and will begin to draw infection out. Also, you may need a little bite adjustment. No biggy. Dentist can do it real quick. You just bite on the special paper that will mark the spot that needs to be smoothed. Sometimes having your mouth open for a lengthy treatment can mess up your bite. Good luck and start swishing that warm salt water.

Call your dentist immediately and get appointment today. I had a root canal in the past and had no pain. It might be an infection or an abscess and your dentist or ER may prescribe antibiotics. Be seen today or go to the ER. Feel better soon!

Get off of the internet and on the phone immediately; this constitutes a dental emergency and needs attention NOW. Call the dentist and insist on being seen in person at once. I've had an infection in a front tooth after a root canal and it was exactly as you describe; a nightmare.

If it was your general dentist who did the RC, I’d call the office and have them see you immediately OR get you an emergency referral to an endodondist. Whether it’s a cracked tooth or an infection, once it’s gone bad ime it’s speciality care. You need to get it looked at ASAP.

My DDS does not ever do RC. This seems to be what a lot of general dentistry practices do. They may do the filling after the RC is done but do not do any RC work or close to the bone work. My last RC work was on a molar & was abt $1200. It is expensive. Fortunately we have dental insurance and they paid 50% and our health insurance paid for some of the anesthesia. Same thing happened on health insurance paying for anesthesia when our son had to see an oral surgeon for extractions after his spanner & b 4 his braces went in. I was surprised our employer sponsored health insurance paid for anesthesia. Both had a nurse anesthetist in their practice. It is worth asking if any anesthesia is covered by your health insurance.

Agree with people. Call your dentist. They will agree that it shouldn’t hurt this badly after a week. Most likely infection.

I go with the cracked tooth. There is no dry socket in a root canal. Did the dentist that did the RC fill in the hole that was made? This was left for my regular dentist to do.

I had a similar experience with a molar that my dentist did a root canal on. It was later discovered that he had actually cracked my tooth during the procedure, and I ended up having to have it pulled after all that. You may want them to check for a crack in the tooth. Good luck.
