How would I be able to care for my mother 24/7 while getting a salary as a care provider? What education would I need?

My mother doesn't qualify for Medicaid. And, at this point, I only want to take care of my mother. Is it possible to get hired on by a personal services company and bring my own client into the company for me to take care of?

You should not involve an agency if your mom is going to be paying you from her funds.

You would be better served to meet with a certified elder law attorney (www.nelf.org) and get a caregiving contract done and a referral to a payroll company that can take care of the legality of patients you according to the law.

I’m not sure of local/state programs - you would have to search your area - maybe ask for a social worker - contact Council on Aging etc. - was your Dad a veteran (as some spouses qualify for aide that may or may not be able to be used towards caregiving).

But if she doesn’t qualify for Medicaid (which is the only way I know that a family member may qualify as paid care) - Medicare would allow home health but that is for nursing/wound care - in home therapies - and maybe a bath aide once or twice a week - Medicare does not pay for care in the home.

Does she have long term health insurance? Too much in assets to qualify for Medicaid?

The other suggestion would be to speak with an Elder Law attorney and your mom can pay you as her caregiver out of her monies and they can draw up a caregiver contract. They may also have other ideas or helpful info going forward as to her qualifying for Medicaid etc. I’m still trying to figure out my moms stuff with Elder Law so I don’t have much advice thus far as I’m just starting it.

They have a program in PA that does this exact thing. You are hired by a Care provider who trains you and allows you to care for a friend or family. They pay benefits. I would think the State of PA subsidizes this program in some way so there is criteria that has to be met.

Why does your Mom not qualify for Medicaid?

You can try that one with a care service in your area but it actually makes NO sense whatsoever.
