Nursing Home pricing is too high. Does Medicaid supplement nursing home fees in this situation?

We have long term health care insurance but the amount they provide is less than the rate oof local nursing homes. We could not afford to have one of us live at home (community spouse) and supplement the rest of the nursing home fees. Does Medicaid supplement nursing home fees in this situation? It has been hard to find an answer.

Medicaid is run differently per state. There will be a "look back" period on the application, many as long as 5 years. I also strongly agree to consult with Medicaid Planner for your state to best understand your options and get help with filling out the app, if necessary.

You need to talk to a Medicaid planner or certified Eldercare attorney.

Unfortunately it seems many are disappointed with LTHC insurance, find it's not enough to cover a skilled nursing facility. A few suggestions:

- home care. Pay a home health agency to have one or more persons to come in on a schedule to match your needs

- Look into eligibility for State-run programs that provide nursing home-equivalent care at home. See if anything can offset the cost of whatever the insurance policy doesn't cover.

- house-sized assisted living facilities that have less than six patients

I hope you find a workable solution soon. Take care.

Since assisted living facilities can also be pricey, have you looked into assisted living facilities in a house?
