My son's dad is being physically evicted from a home and hasn't showered in a year. He may have alcohol induced dementia. How can he help?

How old is your son? If he is an adult, then he can apply to have his dad released to him as an endagered senior (that's not what it's called, but I can't think what else to call it)

Your son will take responsibility for his dad's care, living arrangements and finances. I had a friend do this to her dad a few years ago. Same situation--alcoholic father, hoarder, filthy apartment and inability to run his own life. She got conservatorship over him and moved him to a nice ALF, and pays his bills, giving him only enough cash to have a few bills in his pocket.

He still acquires alcohol from friends, but she keeps him on a pretty tight leash. I know it's hard for her and him, but he has to be 'clean' to be around her kids, his only family.

It's hard, stressful and not fun, but I have watched my dear little friend work our of love and compassion for her dad, when she could have just dumped him.

You can help or not help as you see fit. Likely you had enough of him when he was a part of your life.

Ditto to what MJ1929 suggested. If you are not his DPoA or guardian you do not the legal power required to help him, so alerting the county is the most you can do.

Contact Adult Protective Services for him. They need to find a place to put him.
