Should I feel guilty for saying no to my dad?

Dad has asked me to get him a new stair carpet and I have said no as he has covered it in paint, he won't stop painting everything in the house and not very well. He gets it everywhere. If I replace the carpet he will only get paint all over it, as he can't stop. Lady who looks after him is going to try and clean it.

Remove the paint cans and all painting supplies (brushes, rollers, openers, stir sticks, etc.) unless you want to wear people out trying to clean up after his irrational activity. If someone is buying the paint for him politely inform them to please stop.

Never feel guilty when you make a decision in his best interests

You were correct in telling him no. But this painting seems to be an obsession. Have you discussed this with his doctor? Its sort of like an anxiety which is not good for him. Does he suffer from a Dementia?

Actually, if he painted the carpet, thats as bad as painting wood. Its slippery and can cause a fall. Not sure how aide could clean it.
