Is it typical in a nursing home to have 3 people in a room?

My mother is moving from an assisted living apartment to a SNF/nursing home soon. She's in rehab now in a room with 2 others. She thinks the rehab set-up is temporary, and that she'll be moving to another room with only 1 roommate once she finishes rehab. I sure hope so for her sake.

I've only seen rooms with 2 patients in them.

One facility I worked in had two rooms that had three Residents in it. The room was large. Typically there’s usually two people in a room.

I only toured one home with more than 2, but this was over a decade ago.  There were 4 people in one room, laid out like a jail.   It only took one view of that to decide that it's wasn't for anyone in my family.

Keep looking.   (I sure hope you haven't paid any deposits?)   And be cautious of verbal commitments; get any changes or issues on numbers of people in the rooms in writing.

I've never seen 3 in a room. That's heinous! Sharing one bathroom? Is there another rehab facility she can go to? Worth looking into.

I can't even deal with the fact that elderly people have to move into a small room with a complete stranger and share a bathroom. A nursing home near us made major modifications to have one person per room with a private bath. Now you're talking!
