Hospital bed mattresses?

Thank you for your answers they are very appreciated. I did order her a gel topper to come with the bed when I bought the bed however it doesn’t seem to help, seems just as hard as ever! I thought about the other therapeutic mattresses out there. Such as the airflow or the water mattresses does anyone have any experience with these?

There are toppers that you can get to make the mattress a bit softer.
Most of the hospital bed mattresses are that way because the mattress inside is a closed foam or other product that will not absorb moisture. this keep the mattress easily cleanable and easy to sanitize.
If you put a topper on the mattress cover that with a waterproof mattress protector so that can be removed and washed easily. Get 2 to alternate the waterproof covers are easy to wash but difficult to dry, they take a long time and I never liked to dry them in the drier as that can eventually make the waterproof layer crack.

The Memory Care had requested that I let hospice bring in a twin hospital bed for my mom, to replace the regular full size bed we had there. It would make it easier for them to help her. So we did that. I bought a Temurpedic Memory Foam topper for it at Bed bath and Beyond. That made it much more comfortable and it did flex with the mattress if they used the raised head feature. I also bought several waterproof matress protectors that were quilted on top for more fluffiness. Just make sure those fit deep mattresses, so that they can fit over both matress and topper together, keeps the topper from moving.

I would buy a gel foam topper. That will give the cozy softness she wants with the support for her to get up.

2" is a good size but, she may want a 3". Anything deeper and you are right back where you stated ime.

A faux sheep wool cover will also add cozy softness.
