How do I go about getting my mother a POA?

My mother is not a VA resident but she came down here for Thanksgiving holiday and contracted covid. She is now in the hospital on oxygen. We believe her health is declining. She has four children 28 years and above, including me the second oldest. She requested that my older sister and I become her POA in case anything were to happen. However we believe she is not getting the proper care since she has been admitted. What are my options in order to help her?

Patient advocate or social worker should be able to provide a copy for her to initial and then both of you can sign. Then you can take to a bank or maybe they have a notary at the hospital.

Sorry she has covid. It's not always kind to the older folks.

I'm not sure of the ins and outs of this, but I would be careful of having both of you be POA. I don't even know if two people can be named to the job? Regardless, one of you could be primary and the other could be secondary in case the first can't or won't make the decisions.

Get in touch with your attorney or get a recommendation for one ASAP.

I believe you can actually get the paperwork online, fill it out, get a notary that comes to you and get it notarized. Then file it.
