Will Medicare help pay for care support for indigent veterans?

Veteran's active duty was 1980-82, peacetime, so he doesn't qualify for aid-in-assistance. Receives SSDI and VA Healthcare.

If you mean aides, no. There was a person that posted that said she was able to get "intermittent" care thru Medicare for her Aunt and Mother.

As suggested, you need to talk to someone at his County VA office. Does he go thru a VA hospital for his care? If so, there should be a SW who can help.

John, since he's already getting some VA support, you could ask the medical team's social worker for insights on your questions. These people are far more knowledgeable than any of us could ever be on VA policies.

You could also ask a local VA office, such as a County or State VA office, as they also have very qualified and knowledgeable reps.

The VA also publishes e-mail newsletters and updates, and if I remember correctly, the issue of indigency has been addressed.

Some links from the e-mails:

"1-800-MyVA411 (800-698-2411) is always the right number

Veterans Crisis Line: 1-800-273-8255 and press 1, Chat, or Text 838255

Vet Centers: 1-877-927-8387

Homeless Veteran Resources: 1-877-424-3838"

I would probably start with the Homeless hotline, since indigency is related to homelessness.

Good luck. I hope you find some help.
