99.99% sure the funeral home would have notified SS. Do not go unless you have an appointment, they are pretty strict about that right now. You might even be able to get some of your questions answered over the phone. They are real good about calling you back if you choose that option. So sorry for your loss. 😢🙏 ((hugs))
If their is no monthly service charge, I would wait a few months. Maybe after you file your taxes. Just in case.
I waited on my dads and he got a payment from a class action lawsuit I didn't even know about. The account was tagged that he was deceased, so no withdrawals allowed, only deposits.
So sorry for your loss. VA and SS will send you a letter telling you they know about the reported death and if there would be any money to be reclaimed.
Wait to see if you get those letters if you have not already, then go from there.
I will assume you have been to SS to get your SS adjusted so you now get what he was receiving. Since you already receive half of what he receives, you now get 50% of his.
If you are sure he will receive nothing to his bank acct, then I guess you can close it. Ask the bank.
Sorry for your loss pronker. Yes you can close his account after making sure there no auto deposits or withdrawals still active. Make sure to bring the death certificate to the bank.
