I am considering a full time live in person to only assist with the personal needs of my wife. What is an appropriate salary?
I would provide free private bedroom, private bathroom, private sitting room with large screen TV couch and recliner and garage for their car. Some meals included. No house duties required.
Dwh, I know you had asked this question before, but I couldn't find it within the forum, don't know what happened. Lot of good advice was given.
You'll probably remember me saying that you need to contact your home insurance carrier to see if you would need to get a "workman comp" policy since you will be having an employee in your home. Workman comp policy helps in case the caregiver should become injured while on the job.
So what is the person to do on all the downtime when your wife does not need a bath or the bathroom? But the person still can't leave because your wife may need the bathroom? I agree that this is more hours for pay than just the few you may think the aide is doing... the aide will be "on call" 24 x 7 and that is not fair. and you may come to resent her "hanging around doing nothing" for "free" room and some board?
Any hired aide is considered an employee by the IRS. You need to first check with your Labor board to see what you need to do. Just like any employee they work 40 hrs, time and half over. Time off.
I would also have a contract written up by a lawyer especially saying at time wife is placed in a Longterm care facility, Asst Living, memory care or passes, the employment is over and the person needs to move out by a certain time. If this is not done, then they will be escorted out by Police. We have a poster right now who cannot get a live-in out the a home his is Executor for.
