I am unable to care for my mom anymore and need to find alternative living arrangements. Any suggestions for where I should start?

Depends on what kind of care your mom needs. At her age, I wouldn't be surprised if she'd have needs that would indicate that a nursing home would be the best place for the level of care she needs. Ask around for some good places near you. If your mom doesn't have any or much money, you will need to find a place that takes medicaid and you can work with the nursing home to get that ball rolling.

Call the local Area Agency on Aging for the Houston area. They can have both you and your mom assessed for the care you both need.

It all depends if you have any money. If not, Mom can be placed in a Longterm care facility on Medicaid. Do you need help with any ADLs? Check with your State to see if they have Assisted living wavers. Maybe both you and Mom can share a room in AL.

If you can do for yourself there are HUD apartments that charge 30% of your monthly income for rent. The one where I live, the transit bus comes there and picks up residents. Its near a shopping center so residents can walk or scooter there. There are 55 and up places for low income. Both the HUD and low income are handicapped accessible and bathrooms have tub bars.
