There’s no cut and dried timeframe for hospice. Too many people wait too long to call, so I would recommend you go ahead and ask for an evaluation now.
I truly believe that many people do not get to take advantage of all that Hospice has to offer. If there is any possibility even what might be a remote one that your dad might qualify for Hospice PLEASE call the Hospice of your choice and ask that he be evaluated. If he does not qualify for Hospice there is a possibility that he would qualify for Palliative Care and the same staff would probably see him for Palliative and if they think he is at the point when he would qualify for hospice they would be able to get that done quickly. *there are 2 basic types of Hospice. FOR Profit and NOT for Profit do research and see what is available in your area.*
Could be that he is declining due to all his health issues. I think, at his age and current condition, that a hospice evaluation is a good idea. Can't hurt, right?
