Medicaid is a program that is governed by the rules of each state so you must check on the social services webpage for your parent's state.
In general I don't believe any family caregiver is subsidized 100% (like 40 hrs per week or 24/7 care) and the hourly rate is usually minimum wage. But again, please check your own state's coverage.
Asking for compensation isn’t selfish; it’s realistic. The short answer is YES there may be resources available to you - but know the legal options before proceeding. Make an appointment ASAP with an elder law attorney to discuss options. And put any agreement between you and your parent in writing! Personal Care Agreement (sometimes called a family care contract) spells out the duties you will perform and the compensation you’ll be paid. If you've got an agreement in writing, you can file a claim for compensation with the Estate if necessary. If not, you're screwed. Always start with good legal counsel, then you can look into available resources. My advice is based on experience. I lost everything... Hi, Fisacker. Doing some quick Googling it's not clear to me if MS offers a program to pay family members to care for a parent on Medicaid who qualifies for in-home health. (Medicare is a completely different program and does not offer such a service.) In CA the program is known as IHSS (for In-Home Supportive Services) and the pay and hours offered to family caregivers are limited.
I would begin by finding the Area Agency on Aging for your mother's location. It should be listed on the county website under Health and Human Services or something like that.
I see from your profile you are considering giving up your home and job to care for your mom. Please research what this might wind up costing you financially, emotionally, physically, etc. and be clear about what YOUR needs and boundaries are BEFORE you make any final decisions.
