I live in Tennessee, taking care of a disabled husband (72) who has no income. Can I be compensated for his care?

He did not earn enough to qualify for Social Security. I am told he can't draw disability because of my income. He is not a veteran. I need financial help because he needs some dental work done. I am in west TN Jackson. Can I be compensated for his care?

Here's a thorough article from this forum's homepage:

To summarize, they won't pay for FT care and it will be minimum wage, if you qualify.

Contact your local area's Agency on Aging to find other resources. Medicaid may cover for some of his dental work (it depends on each state) but he has to apply to qualify, so contact social service.

Its not earning enough its he needed to work 10 yrs (40 qtrs). After he was turned down for Social Security Disability did you see a SS lawyer? They cannot charge you. The get a % of the retro money husband may receive.

I would go to Social Services and see if their is any help for him.

That sounds like a very unusual and unique situation. If your husband were single, he would at least qualify for SSI (Supplemental Security income) and Medicaid. Are you saying he was denied because he's married, and you earn too much?

As far as the dental work contact some of the dental schools in your area, its possible they may offer free or reduced care, but unfortunately it may be harder to find that service now during Covid times.
