Would I be allowed to take care of this lady as an attendant or would I have to be a caregiver?

I have been with her for 2 months & we are planning on moving to a HUD subsidized apt. together. She is to have a hip replacement within the next month. She is now staying with her daughter, across the street from me. We get along great & it is nice to have someone to talk to my own age. I have been living with my grandson for 5 years & really need to get out on my own. But I love helping people & Pat & I are a good fit. Thank you.

Is your friend getting this apartment in her own name? Usually, they are one bedroom. If she is getting it based on her income, no you cannot move in with her. I doubt, if its a one bedroom, even as a Caregiver, you could live there. Thats not just HUD rules it maybe State rules. And if you are the same age, you being a caregiver may not work. Both my friends retired at 60 as CNAs because their backs could not taking the lifting anymore.

If you applied for this apartment together and they are aware of both ur incomes and you will both have a room, I see no problem. (I guess as 2 women u could share a room but I don't think they are that big) But again, if this only your friend applying, you cannot move in. This would be considered frauding HUD and ur friend could lose her apt.

I suggest you put your name in at the apts. 30% of your monthly income is usually taken for rent. You would be responsible for electric, cable and internet. That way you can help her.
