How do I keep my dad from taking his catheter apart?

If dad is not getting home health care(nursing) he needs it for his catheter care. Catheters have to be changed every 30 days. The nurse should be able to help secure the catheter. My dad did the same as far as fiddling with his catheter and pulling on it. The nurse attached a connector of some kind to his thigh to hook the catheter to. He should not be able to pull the catheter out. It has an inflatable balloon on the end to keep it secured.

How about an ace wrap to hide it from his view? Would be skin friendly too.

Ask his doctor about something mild to calm his agitation a bit.

Are you sensing from the answers you’ve received, that this may quickly become a problem that cannot be managed at home in a practical way by yourself, even with full time support?

What about dressing him in anti strip clothing, at least at night

Try putting oven mitts on him. Secure them with duct tape. I’m assuming his diet is mostly nutritional fluids or could be, so he might not need his hands for feeding. But if so, just affix the mitts afrerward.

When my husband kept trying to pull out his cath, they used a large swath of special tape to secure it to his thigh. It's like a second skin and very adhesive. In my husband's case it was very painful to remove b/c his skin was broken down in his final days, but....

That said, how it was taken off him likely wasn't done properly. I think someone did a big no-no. You can't put that type of adhesive on a person, especially with degraded skin, without a solvent or something to make removing it easier.
